The Taste of Murder

Fiction

When glamorous Catherine de Barnes (Catney to her friends) astonished everyone by walking away from twenty years in her job and her marriage, she planned the perfect village life in the glorious Cotswolds countryside, chatting with friends, tending her garden and perfect thatched cottage, dabbling with a lifestyle business and some new hobby or other. And Catney generally got what she wanted.

Now, ten months and an intensive chocolatier course later, her garden’s immaculate, she’s at heart of several village Committees, she’s mastered her chocolate bombs and she’s left business stress far behind. Even the fortnightly begging calls from her old boss offering ever better terms have finally stopped. Along with the incredulous texts from her ex. And yet – there’s still something missing. Although it turns out to be not all what she expected.

Meanwhile, this year’s fete, due to be opened by celebrity TV chef Lee Clump, is causing much excitement in the village of Much Slaughter, especially as he’s rumoured to be opening an exclusive restaurant locally.

Catney is looking forward to meeting him and making an impression but not to have him fall dead at her feet. Then things take a sinister turn when dishy local doctor Linton Heath rules out the proverbial heart attack and very definitely rules in foul play. With all available detectives tied up elsewhere with ‘a security incident’, Catney soon finds her initial questions trying to free her friend uncover a whole nest of vipers as she’s sucked ever deeper into the simmering cauldron of suspicion and deceit…
